That crispness is the “hotel feel” people describe, it is percale, not a high thread-count sateen. At home the choice is simpler than a hotel’s: percale for a crisp, cool bed; sateen for a soft, warm, lustrous one.
Why hotels choose percale
Percale launders hard, dries fast, presses flat and looks immaculate, the operational reasons a hotel needs, and the same reasons it feels so good to get into. The one-over-one weave moves air rather than trapping it, so it sleeps cool under heavy hotel duvets.
