Percale is our recommendation for children's beds because it is cooler to sleep in, launders hard without complaint, and holds a fine embroidered outline more crisply than sateen.
Kashukuma began as a children's brand. It grew into a homeware line for all ages, but this is where the origin is most visible - and where the design decisions are least compromised, because a child will tell you immediately whether a bed is worth getting into. There is a practical reason all four children's designs are percale rather than sateen. Percale breathes more freely, which matters for children who sleep warm. It survives weekly washing for years without going limp. And its matte surface holds a small-scale embroidered outline sharply, which sateen's sheen tends to soften - relevant when the motif is a bee rather than a full-scale flower. There is also something to find in each one: a busy crowd of dogs in Pups at the Park, a single bee tucked among the daisies in Daisy & Bee. The design is the same on every set; hand embroidery simply gives it a warmth a printed panel does not have.

Is percale or sateen better for a child's bed?
Percale, for three reasons: it is cooler to sleep in, it holds up better to frequent washing, and it keeps fine embroidered outlines crisper. All four of our children's designs are percale.
Are these safe for sensitive skin?
They are 100% cotton with no synthetic blends, and certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, which means the fabric has been tested for harmful substances. If you have a specific sensitivity, contact us before ordering and we will share what we know about our production.
Can I get a matching set for my own bed?

Will the embroidery survive a child's bed?
Yes, with normal care: wash inside-out, cold or warm, gentle cycle, no bleach, tumble dry low. The embroidery is worked into the fabric, not applied on top of it.
