Our Story

Kashukuma began, as most good things do, with a memory. The name comes from the word for “tortoise” in a regional language of Pakistan, and from a beloved character on a childhood television show that two siblings grew up watching together. The tortoise: unhurried, deliberate, steady. It moves at its own pace and carries everything it needs with it. It seemed like the right spirit for a brand built on the belief that slowness is not a weakness.

The Siblings

Kashukuma was founded by a brother and sister. Growing up, they shared a home, a television, a language, and a sensibility, an instinctive appreciation for things made with care. When they decided to build something together, it felt natural to start with the home. Specifically, with the bed: the most personal, most daily, most overlooked space in a person’s life.

Originally for Children

The brand was originally imagined as a children’s label, bright, playful, and full of the warmth that the name Kashukuma carries. But somewhere in the process of building it, they realized the things they were making spoke to something broader. The hand embroidery. The quality of the cotton. The limited runs. These weren’t just qualities that appealed to children, they were qualities that anyone who has ever held something truly well-made would recognize immediately. So Kashukuma grew.

It is now a homeware line for anyone, child or adult, who values craft over convenience. You can still see the origin in the collection: Summer Meadow and Daisy & Bee are the same design, made twice, for a parent’s bed and a child’s.

The Philosophy

We live in an era of mass production. Bed linen, regardless of the brand name on the label, is increasingly made the same way: in enormous factories, at enormous volume, with efficiency as the primary goal. The result is products that are perfectly adequate and entirely forgettable. We made a different choice. Our pieces are handcrafted in Pakistan by artisans who have been doing this work for generations. They are intentionally imperfect, which is to say, they are human.

The slight variation in an embroidery pattern, the subtle texture difference between one edge and another: these are not defects. They are evidence that a person made this, not a machine. We produce a small quantity. We make each design in small, hand-embroidered drops, and we never mass-produce. When you buy a piece from Kashukuma, you own something that not everyone can have, not because it costs a fortune, but simply because there are not very many of them.

Where We’re Going

Our first collection is bed linen and cushion covers. In time, Kashukuma will expand into tablecloths, bath products, and other home textiles, always made the same way, with the same care. We’re glad you found us. Take your time.
